Disaster of Floods or Shin Yoosung of the 41st round, was one of Yoo Joonghyuk's former party members from the 41st regression, having been sent from the future after spending thousands of years wandering across timelines gathering information on the scenarios. She appears in Main Scenario 5 as the enemy and dies at the end of the scenario, but is resurrected as a Dokkaebi. By the end of the scenarios, she gains the position of the Dokkaebi King of the 1864th round.

Appearance[]

As the Disaster of Floods, Shin Yoosung has pale skin and long hair, tied in a ponytail and wrapped around her body. Her body is covered in thick white fur, reminiscent of an animal pelt, which takes the form of clothes.[2] When controlled by Paul and turned evil, a black aura surrounds her.[3]

Personality[]

As the 41st regression Shin Yoosung: She is incredibly rueful and aggressive to Joonhyuk, and although she tries to kill him, she yearns for his approval and answer, as shown when he calls Dokja his companion and her pleading for him to rescind that and call her his. She is extremely loyal towards her previous comrades, which in turn is also why she is so angry that Joonhyuk could not care about them as they died. She is also still loyal to Joonhyuk until her reawakening as a Disaster, as she followed his orders to go into the labyrinth despite the risks.

History[]

In the 41st round, Shin Yoosung accompanied Yoo Joonghyuk as a member of his party. Shin Yoosung looked up to him, respectfully referring to him as her Captain and being willing to obey his orders.[2] At some point, he promised her that they could all go on a trip together after the end of the scenarios. However, the party struggled to progress through the world of the <Star Stream>, and the members began to die one by one until only Yoo Joonghyuk and Shin Yoosung were left. (Notably, Lee Jihye was slaughtered by Japanese incarnations, and Lee Hyunsung died to an iron blood dragon's breath attack.) Yoo Joonghyuk's cold, detached, and jaded responses to the party members' deaths disturbed her, to the point where she retained the memories of his exact words even thousands of years later.[4][5]

Yoosung journeys alone

Yoosung journeys alone through the Dark Fault

Having given up on saving the 41st regression, Yoo Joonghyuk eventually asked her to leave that world line and travel through time to gather information about the scenarios before going back to his early regressions and passing on the information to them, hopeful that this would change the past and allow him to succeed earlier. Shin Yoosung agreed, and with the help of the Great Demon of the Horizon, she left the world line and traveled through the Dark Fault, crossing timelines and learning more about their world.[6] She journeyed alone for thousands of years, gradually losing her resolve to save her party and becoming exhausted by her travels.[2]

Eventually, she managed to cross over into the 2nd regression, entering during Main Scenario 5 as the Disaster of Floods. In this regression, she gave Yoo Joonghyuk all the information she could. It is unknown whether she survived in the 2nd regression (as the main scenario's completion condition was her death), but the knowledge she passed on allowed Yoo Joonghyuk to progress until the 46th main scenario, after which challenges led to his defeat and eventual regression.[2] In the webtoon, however, it is implied that she killed herself in the 2nd regression.

Synopsis[]

Main Scenario 5[]

Yoosung falls from meteor

Yoosung falls from the meteorite

Shin Yoosung, as the Disaster of Floods, is initially trapped inside a massive meteor covered in a threatening red aura, which landed on Nodeulseom, an artificial island in Han River. Due to the sacrifice of the yellow guide meteorite and the injection of magic power by Yoo Joonghyuk and his allies, her meteorite hatches earlier than it should have.[7] Shin Yoosung emerges, her body covering itself in invincible white fur; the powerful aura coming off her freezes everyone in their tracks, save for Yoo Joonghyuk, who greets her. Realizing from his expectant greeting that he has met her before, she questions him and finds out that she helped him in the second regression. Despair fills Shin Yoosung as she realizes that even her help, provided after thousands of years of suffering, could not save her party and take them to the end of the scenarios. Yoo Joonghyuk's incessant demands stoke her exhausted grief and make her angry as she realizes that he sees her as nothing more than a tool of regression. Furious and hateful, she declares that Yoo Joonghyuk cannot save anyone and attempts to kill him.

However, Kim Dokja thwarts her murder attempt, taking the blow for Yoo Joonghyuk and dying instead. While Yoo Joonghyuk's attention is on him, Shin Yoosung uses [Monster Gate] to call forth a "flood" of monsters and commands them to destroy everything and everyone on Nodeulseom. At Yoo Joonghyuk's furious attack on her, she chides him for his low level skills and asks why he is so agitated. She questions who Kim Dokja is, and is stunned at Yoo Joonghyuk's declaration that he is his companion.[2] Shocked and disbelieving, she asks him to repeat himself, growing absolutely furious with horror.

Having never heard the 41st round's Yoo Joonghyuk call anyone a companion and remembering his seemingly complete lack of care for her party members, she cannot understand how the current Yoo Joonghyuk could feel such closeness with Kim Dokja, a man she does not even recognize. Feeling betrayed by the proof of his capacity for caring (and possibly shaken by the thought that her Captain may have simply not cared about her at all), she decides to subject him to the worst pain she can picture: having to watch his loved ones die, before being killed himself. She offers him a chance to save himself, ordering him to rescind his declaration of companionship with Kim Dokja, but becomes resolute at his refusal.

Leaving him tied in place through the bandages of sulfur mummies, she walks towards the edge of the island, killing the incarnations in her way and locating Lee Jihye. Shin Yoosung explains Yoo Joonghyuk's utter apathy for Lee Jihye to the now-younger girl, explaining her death and his uncaring comments afterwards. Pitying, she promises to kill Lee Jihye in a less painful manner,[4] and punches her, effortlessly sending her flying to her presumed death. Upon finding Lee Hyunsung, she repeats this procedure, narrating his death and Yoo Joonghyuk's callous parting words and preparing to kill him. However, he tells her he is not Yoo Joonghyuk's follower, but rather Kim Dokja's. She punches him away, punctuating her hit with ether to ensure his death, and starts to wonder who Kim Dokja is. She proceeds even further, confused at the presence and seemingly independent actions of the various Kings of Seoul Dome, before becoming aware of the presence of her younger self, who controls monsters to attack the adult Shin Yoosung. Assuming that Yoo Joonghyuk has kept her younger self alive in order to eventually kill her, the Disaster of Floods moves forward with intent to kill, but is interrupted first by Yoo Sangah and then Lee Gilyoung, the first of whom she sets monsters on and the second of whom interrogates her about Kim Dokja's whereabouts.

As she disables him and demands to know who Kim Dokja is, Lee Jihye and Lee Hyunsung reappear accompanied by the firing of the ghost ships. Confused and frustrated, Shin Yoosung prepares to kill Lee Gilyoung, only to be stopped by an intense pain in her hand and a voice inside her head. As she demands that the presence leave her, she is approached by the younger Shin Yoosung, who asks if Kim Dokja is the one controlling her.[5]

Abilities[]

Personal Attributes[]

  • Beast Lord (Legend): A powerful attribute that Shin Yoosung presumably gains after years of learning to control animals and monsters.[2]

Personal Skills[]

  • Monster Gate: A skill provided by the Beast Lord attribute, this allows Shin Yoosung to summon any monster she has domesticated in her past, even those in other dimensions.[2]
  • Beast King's Sensitivity: An immensely powerful defense skill provided by the Beast Lord attribute, this grows white fur over the user's skin that blocks all attacks and grants the user invincibility.[4] This skill costs a large amount of magic power.[3]
  • Beast King's Breath: A skill provided by the Beast Lord attribute. Presumably an area-of-effect breath attack comparable to the 5th grade sea species' skill [Ice Breath].[8]
  • Beast King's Vitality: Presumably a healing or short-term health recovery skill. Similar to Yoo Joonghyuk's [Recovery].[9]

Relationships[]

Yoo Joonghyuk[]

The 41st Shin Yoosung had a turbulent relationship with Yoo Joonghyuk. In the 41st round she respected him and cared for him but came to resent him for his cruel treatment of his companions. In the 3rd round she attempts to kill him despite him not being the version of him she wants revenge on.

Kim Dokja[]

The 41st Shin Yoosung is perplexed by Kim Dokja as he seemingly usurped the 3rd round Yoo Joonghyuk's role as the leader and was important enough for Yoo Joonghyuk to try and kill her when she killed him. He tries to save her despite her protest and promises to get revenge for her. he helps her reincarnate which she agrees to, however, she also calls him cruel as his plan for her involves her becoming a dokkaebi and going through more suffering.

Trivia[]

  • In Chapter 112 of the webtoon she is drawn in a pose that references the famous painting Flaming June. This painting represents the barrier between sleep and death connecting to Shin Yoosung's temporary death and reincarnation. It also has connects to Greek mythology, fitting as she is in the Underworld.
