Michael, also known as Lucifer, was the strongest archangel in the <Eden> nebula, with the constellation modifier Savior of Corruption (also translated as Saviour of the Corrupted).[1][2] Because he once ate a Star Relic Fruit, he could transform into a Demon King with the modifier King of Corrupted Angels.[3]
Appearance[]
Michael had flowing, platinum-blond hair, slightly shining violet eyes, and the radiant wings of an archangel.[1][2] As a Demon King, he had horns and black wings.[4]
In combat, he was often seen with a purple-colored aura, and the effects of his attacks were always purple in color.[5][2][6]
When Kim Dokja encountered him in Eden, the heads of demon kings were hanging from Michael's waist like fruit.[5]
Personality[]
Michael had a violent, unrestrained personality, with that wildness often visible in his eyes.[1][7] Merely sharing a word in their respective modifiers was enough for him to decide he wanted Kim Dokja dead, and he didn't take any of the resultant pushback seriously; instead, he smiled and dismissively mocked Uriel after she threatened him and found it funny when he was criticized by other constellations.[5] Kim Dokja thought he had "an incredibly cruel voice for an archangel."[1]
Later, while Michael was indignantly objecting to being targeted in the 'Archangel Hunting' sub-scenario, Kim Dokja described him as aloof and proud; indeed, his anger seemed to be partly motivated by pride, as he seethed when "a measly little lower-ranked Demon King" dared to attack him.[4] An extremely wealthy constellation, he didn't hesitate to throw away items that weren't Star Relics.[2]
After killing and being killed so many times throughout the millennia, the repeated resurrections left Michael's memories fragmented and incomplete, to the point that he could no longer remember his birth, how long he had been hunting down the demons, or the names of his opponents, only the final words—either mocking or pitying—of the Demon Kings he killed. He doubted his mission of eternally fighting evil on multiple occasions, although he no longer knew when or how many times he had done so.[8] He had been hearing the voice of one particular Story in his head for a long time, and Michael had developed a habit of burning through cigarettes to restrain himself in response. Despite smoking being a sin in Eden, he was a chain smoker who enjoyed hunting demons and going on business trips because it allowed him to smoke cigarettes to his heart's content.[4]
He seemed to have heeded Metatron's suggestions to stop thinking too deeply and just focus on hating the 'Evil' in front of his eyes.[5] He had become incredibly bloodthirsty by the time of the scenarios, expressing boredom out of combat and eagerly requesting to be dispatched against Agares at the start of the second Great War of Constellations and Demons,[9] and later gleefully killing his fellow archangels on Metatron's orders.[10] When it came to fighting, he believed that "it's no fun when no one is fighting back."[4]
He strongly disliked being called Lucifer.[6]
History[]
Michael was the only existence in Ways of Survival that could use both the powers of a Constellation and a Demon King at the same time, and the only being in Eden's history who ate the [Star Relic Fruit],[4] [Fruit of Good and Evil].[6] For thousands of years, Metatron had commanded him against the forces of 'Evil,' sending him out to kill countless demons for the cause of 'Absolute Good.'[8]
In the 1,500 years before Kim Dokja became the Demon King of Salvation, Michael was the only entity with "salvation" in his modifier.[1]
At some point, he killed the demons Grand Duke Semida and Grand Duke Graphio, taking their heads as trophies that he would wear around his waist like they were toys.[5]
Before being killed twice in the sub-scenario 'Archangel Hunting,' Michael had been on his 176th Incarnation Body, meaning that he had died and lost his memories a total of one hundred and seventy-five times.[11]
Synopsis[]
Kim Dokja met Michael immediately after entering <Eden> with Jung Heewon. At first, Michael only noticed that a demon king had shown up wondering how he'd made it in. After Kim Dokja opened his status to protect Jung Heewon from the pressure of the archangel's power, Michael appeared in front of him and grabbed his chin, interest piqued by the similarity of Kim Dokja's modifier to his own. Smiling, he said he doesn't like sharing his modifier and concluded that Kim Dokja would have to die. But as his hand glowed with purple light, Uriel threatened him to stop, before creating a wall of fire between him and Kim Dokja that forced Michael to step back.[1]
When Uriel told him to get lost, he stared at her for a moment, smiled, then prepared the story 'Demon King Slayer' to kill Kim Dokja. However, this next attack was blocked by Jung Heewon. The constellations Friend of Justice and Harmony, Guardian of Youths and Travel, and others of the absolute good system tried to dissuade him from fighting to no avail, with Michael seemingly amused by their attempts. He declared that it was time to show who was the strongest in Eden, and a purple and white aura formed around his hands, turning into a two-handed sword star relic; before he could do anything with it though Metatron ordered him to stop. Afterwards, Michael reluctantly dispersed his momentum and wandered off.[5]
Michael was one of the constellations observing the 60th scenario, watching the battle between Hades and Poseidon "with mad eyes."[7]
After Kim Dokja was promoted to the 67th Demon King and pretended to open the Factory to incarnations, Michael sent a message to express hostility towards him.[12]
Michael had a seat reserved for him at the Duet Between Good and Evil but was not in attendance. Kim Dokja ended up sitting in his seat after Uriel dragged him there, claiming that she had prepared a seat for him in advance.[13]
On the day Yoo Joonghyuk invaded Eden alone, Michael nearly killed him before being stopped by Metatron.[14]
In the waiting room for the 80th scenario, Michael sent Kim Dokja a message "revealing a ferocious spirit towards [him]" after noticing the entrance of <Kim Dokja's Company>.[15]
Reincarnation Island[]
During the Hidden Scenario: Snatching Modifiers, Kim Dokja saw Michael chasing and massacring constellations on Reincarnation Island. His merciless killing had created a tall mountain of corpses for Kim Dokja to hide behind and dyed the land red with the blood of incarnations. Michael killed the remaining constellations with purple fog created by his [Sword of Saviour]. Afterwards, Kim Dokja watched Michael fly over to the Modifier Necklaces dropped by the dead constellations, searching for something that wasn't there. Michael almost detected the presence of Kim Dokja with the skill [Eye of the Archangel], but Kim Dokja's story [Stone and I] prevented him from doing so. He eventually left, complaining as he flew away that Metatron had issued a time-wasting order.[2]
Later in the same scenario, he indifferently stared at the corpses while smoking a cigarette, going through several in a row before stubbing his cigarette out on a nearby body. As he wondered if he'd taken too long, the voice of a Story in his head responded that it had only just begun, and Michael frowned deeply, telling it to shut up. The Story urged him to "Hurry, wake me up. Unshackle me already." Ignoring it, Michael pulled out a new cigarette, rebuked that now wasn't the time, and then took a long drag from the cigarette.[4]
In order to use Asmodeus and other constellations to hunt Michael down, Yoo Sangah and Kim Dokja issued a fake revelation about him that said "The corrupted Archangel will die by the sword of a 'Swordmaster' on the island of the aged Forgotten People." This resulted in the creation of the sub-scenario 'Archangel Hunting,' which Metatron allowed, as <Eden> had already been compensated. At the sub-scenario's hunting grounds, the 'Fertile Forest' located on the island's north, Michael continued to kill constellations and incarnations, outraged that he would be used as the subject matter for a scenario. Watching the constellations rush towards him, he was enraged and used powerful wind pressure to blow Belial away, before he activated his Status to create a barrier of wind, repelling most but not all of the assault. Several participants activated the skill 'Mass-produced Physical Sword Aura' to attack him, and Michael mocked them, calling them a crazy bunch of fools.
However, the onslaught of attacks wore down his wind barrier; flustered, Michael tried to activate a new story, but before he could, Asmodeus sliced through one of his wings, heavily damaging it. Michael became enraged and started pouring all of his energy into attacks directed at Asmodeus, but his balance and aim had been affected by the damage to his Incarnation body. His attacks mainly served to waste his energy while the constellations wore him down. Finally, Michael activated the story 'Evil that Destroys Evil' and transformed into a much more powerful Demon King, sweeping away all the evil-aligned constellations with a flick of his hand.[4]
Completely lost to madness, he went on to rip apart every nearby constellation and incarnation to shreds, until he had killed every lifeform in the area besides Kim Dokja and Anna Croft. The two barely escaped a Judgement Field created by Michael, who walked out of the crater it made and rushed toward Kim Dokja. Kim Dokja activated his Stories and managed to hurt Michael, prompting the corrupted archangel to make a shocked retreat. Michael then counterattacked with his own Stories, as he decided to end the fight and created another Judgement Field around Kim Dokja, Kim Dokja pulled out a Star Relic Fruit from his pocket. Michael, tired to grab it, but was unable to stop Kim Dokja from biting into the [Fruit of Good and Evil] just before the Judgement Field crushed his body.[6]
Kim Dokja transformed into an Angel, and the Judgement Field crushing him weakened until it began to splinter, allowing Kim Dokja to destroy it and escape, while Michael squatted on the ground and held his head, screaming and writhing in pain. This moment of weakness was exploited by Anna Croft and Kim Dokja, who decapitated Michael using their swords. Michael's Incarnation Body become enshrouded in a blackish fog afterwards, signifying that he had died but would revive again.[8]
After Anna Croft and Kim Dokja left, Yoo Joonghyuk arrived at the Fertile Forest to find a giant black cocoon, something which appeared after Michael was killed in the middle of his Demon King Transformation. The cocoon began to shake, emitting a gloomy purple fog as its top opened up and Michael's nude figure, reformed into a new Incarnation Body, was slowly revealed from inside. After hearing Michael say Kim Dokja's constellation modifier, Yoo Joonghyuk approached the half-opened cocoon, where a half-alive Michael lay defenseless and sleeping. Just as the archangel's eyelids opened, Yoo Joonghyuk impaled Michael's heart with [Breaking the Sky Energy], and Michael's still-weak Incarnation Body crumbled away before he could activate either the Demon King or Angel Transformation, making the cocoon shrink back to its original state as the resurrection process began anew.[11]
Great War of Saints and Demons[]
By the start of the second Great War of Constellations and Demons, Michael had been reborn in his 178th Incarnation Body. As Eden's forces gathered on a plain on the Main Island, Michael was polishing his sword in the corner of the barracks. He held a conversation with Metatron where Michael expressed his boredom and strong desire to get the war over with. While watching the battle, he sulkily requested for Metatron to let him kill the members of <Kim Dokja's Company>, but Metatron told him it would interfere with his plans for the scenario.[9]
During the ceasefire conference called by Metatron and Agares, Michael was present with the other top-ranked Demon Kings and Archangels inside a giant grey sphere in the sky.[16] After Metatron finished speaking to Agares, Michael unsheathed his sword and stabbed the archangel Raguel, before starting to laugh and saying he would have preferred to kill Uriel first. A demonic aura covered him as Michael turned on the other archangels with Metatron's tacit approval, his powers growing stronger every time he killed a fellow archangel. Grinning brightly, he wiped angelic blood off his cheek and declared that now Good would be forever remembered.[10]
By the time the Abyssal Black Flame Dragon incarnated into the scenario, Michael had slaughtered almost all of the beings in the venue. He smashed the head of a surviving angel with his heel, and pulled out an unconscious Raphael from its robe. Michael asked Metatron if he should kill Raphael as well, saying it would be a waste to let him go like this, then brought up the matter of Agares after he received a noncommittal answer from Metatron. Alongside Metatron, he crossed the battlefield over to Agares. When Agares called him an accursed Corrupted Angel, Michael unleashed his Status as a Demon King to force the other to back away.[17]
Against the Calamity of the Book of Revelation's Third Phase, Michael volunteered to buy time, unleashing all of the Status he had been saving up until then and flapping his wings; Kim Dokja speculated that Michael had been shaken by Hades's earlier actions in blocking the Calamity in the Second Phase. As the Third Phase began, Michael rushed to the forefront and confidently used his Judgement Field, before screaming as it shattered after less than a second in the face of the shockwave of Chaos. The Calamity then crushed Michael's body and disintegrated him. Soon after, Kim Dokja passed Michael's half-destroyed Incarnation Body, trapped within the storm of Chaos, as Kim Dokja advanced on Surya's train; Michael looked at him and called him a bastard.[18]
After Metatron failed to seal the Apocalypse Dragon, he saw Michael from far away, inching closer to death with half his Incarnation Body gone. Michael would be unable to revive from death without the existence of his nebula, so it can be assumed that with the destruction of <Eden>, he died for the final time.[19]
Abilities[]
Personal Attributes[]
- Corruption
Personal Skills[]
- Eye of the Archangel: An exclusive skill possessed by archangels that detects the presence of evil. When in use, Michael's eyes glowed with silvery light.[2]
Stigmas[]
- Judgement Field: The ability to destroy everything that can only be earned through 'Corruption,' Judgement Field is a stigma that can't be canceled after activation. When Michael used it against Anna Croft and Kim Dokja, he created a purple-colored half-dome reminiscent of a barrier, that collapsed in on itself in the blink of an eye and destroyed everything trapped within, creating a crater from which purple smoke rose.[6]
Stories[]
- Demon King Slayer (unknown rank): A Story with near invincible power against demon kings. When Michael used it against Kim Dokja in Eden, purple energy overflowed from his body and caused grass to wither as it swept across the meadow.[5]
- Flame That Annihilates Evil (unknown rank): One of the Stories that displays the greatest effect against evil-aligned constellations.[2]
- Evil That Destroys Evil (unknown rank): A Story that allowed Michael to turn into the Demon King, King of Corrupted Angels. When this Story was used, a pitch-black aura covered him and rendered him impervious to attacks, before Michael unleashed his true power, that on the level of a Myth-grade constellation.[4] Against Evil-aligned beings, he became the strongest existence in the world,[6] but was unable to attack Good-aligned opponents without being heavily penalized.[8] However, this restriction could be lifted with Metatron's approval, and without it, Michael instead grew stronger by killing his fellow archangels.[10] When killed in this state, Michael was enveloped in black fog that formed a giant cocoon, from which he emerged alive again, at the price of a portion of his memories being lost every time he was resurrected.[11] His ability to resurrect this way was dependent on the continued existence of <Eden>.[19]
Items[]
- Sword of Saviour[2]
Relationships[]
Metatron[]
Michael often disagreed with Metatron's leadership, but he always respected Metatron's authority over him as the highest ranking archangel in <Eden>. He backed down when Metatron warned him off attacking Kim Dokja, Uriel, and Jung Heewon,[5] followed an order he personally considered a waste of time during the Hidden Scenario: Snatching Modifiers,[2] and refrained from rushing off to kill Agares, their enemy in the Great War of Constellations and Demons, or <Kim Dokja's Company>, a group he held strong animosity towards, when Metatron told him not to.[9]
Despite the unstable nature of Michael's memories, Metatron's face was one of the few things he could consistently remember, particularly the smile he always returned when Michael would ask how much longer he had to fight in the war between 'Good' and 'Evil.' In response, Metatron would reassure him that there was no need to think too deeply about it, and that Michael only had to focus on hating the 'Evil' in front of him.[8] Michael's later conduct suggested that he had internalized this advice.
Kim Dokja[]
Although at first he only wanted to kill Kim Dokja for their similar modifiers, Michael's grudge against Kim Dokja intensified after failing to kill him twice.
Uriel[]
Michael and Uriel were not on good terms, despite being members of the same nebula. Michael completely disregarded Uriel's threats when she defended Kim Dokja from him, and seemed to be looking forward to fighting her, saying it was time to show who was the strongest in Eden.[5] After killing Raguel during the Great War of Constellations and Demons, Michael said he regretted not being able to kill Uriel first.[10]
Quotes[]
- …Even you? Eden seems to be gone now.[5]
- It's no fun when no one is fighting back.[4]
- 「Hurry, wake me up. Unshackle me already.」[4]
- Scribe, for how long am I supposed to repeat this war? A war that doesn't have any victors…[8]
- …My scenario. Just how long have I been hunting down the demons?[8]
- Isn't it better to end a boring war as soon as possible?[9]
- And now, 'Good' will be forever remembered.[10]
Trivia[]
- Michael is the strongest angel in terms of pure combat power.[20]
