Load the cannons.
Chapter 441
Lee Jihye is an ex-high school student and a current member of <Kim Dokja's Company>. She was originally a character in Ways of Survival, fighting under Yoo Joonghyuk's leadership and one of the 100 strongest incarnations.[3]
Appearance[]
Lee Jihye has arched eyebrows and black hair, worn up in a ponytail. She has bangs.[4] Lee Jihye has a prim expression. Her skin is pale.[5] She tends to wear tracksuits, hooded sweatshirts, and zip-up hoodies. At the start of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, she wore a uniform skirt and a "hood like she was trying to hide her name tag".[6] When Kim Dokja encounters her again during the fifth scenario, she is wearing a black hoodie.[7] She eventually receives a triangular helmet from Kim Dokja.[8]
In the 1863rd round she is wearing a "big grey hood".[9] After the timeskip, she wears trousers and a cap but retains her distinctive hoodie.[10] Without the help of the system she seems to be more muscular than Kim Dokja.[11] During the Journey to the West arc, she is wearing a t-shirt with a butterfly print and chewing bubble gum while playing Sha Wujing.[12] In Oz, she is wearing a fox-ear headband as part of a family discount.[13]
Kim Dokja remarks that "the spirit of the ocean" seems to permeate her. She appears to be accompanied by a "gentle scent of saltiness". Both of these observations are implied to be due to her sponsor.[4]
Lee Jihye keeps a keyring attached to her sword. It was a gift from Na Bori.[14][11]
Personality[]
As one of the central characters in Ways of Survival and Yoo Joonghyuk's disciple, Lee Jihye is a talented fighter with an overwhelming amount of potential.[15] Though she initially understimates the power of both her sponsor and herself, she even surpasses the Maritime War God eventually.[16][17] When fully realized, Lee Jihye is capable of turning the tides despite an overwhelming difference in numbers, capable of destroying hundreds of enemies with a single vessel.[18] According to Kim Dokja, "as long as the battle was fought on water and not anywhere else, she'd not lose even if she failed to eke out a victory".[19] She is the greatest incarnation when it comes to large-scale warfare.[18] However, she isn't only capable of commanding long-range battles but is adept at close combat as well.[20]
If Kim Dokja is to be believed, Lee Jihye isn't a particularly complicated person,[3] best described as "tough but sweet".[21] Ways of Survival has the following to say about her: "The girl who pulled out her sword to protect her companions. Her pride was strong but she was more affectionate than anyone else. Her heart was always revealed on her face."[11] Generally speaking, Lee Jihye is a boisterous, energetic and brave young adult who struggles a lot with feelings of guilt and self-loathing.
As previously mentioned, Lee Jihye can be arrogant and sometimes overconfident in her abilities, possibly to overcompensate her insecurities.[22] [15] She has a competitive streak, frequently comparing herself to other members of Kim Dokja's Company. At the same time, she will be deliberately rude and abrasive towards people she dislikes, unafraid of retaliating either verbally or physically. It is implied that she adopted this attitude from Yoo Joonghyuk, along with his suspiciousness.[23] Though Lee Jihye doesn't respect all elders equally (e.g. calling Kim Dokja "ahjussi"), she idolizes seniors such as her master and Jung Heewon a great deal and will try to emulate them. She appears to be particularly eager for Yoo Joonghyuk's approval,[24] but will also turn to other people for guidance when she is unsure of a situation.[25] Lee Jihye cares a lot about receiving external validation in general. Be it her outrage over discovering that she was originally a fictional character, or her desperation to prove that the 999th round was "the real deal", she appears to desire being told that she is "real" or "good" enough.
Even so, she is very stubborn and struggles with reaching out to others when attempting to resolve conflicts.[26] Like Jung Heewon, she no longer hesitates once she has made up her mind.[27] Lee Jihye needs be reigned in or directed at times,[28] as she is prone to making hasty decisions due to her general impatience[29] and jumps to conclusions quickly.[30] This impulsiveness manifests in multiple ways. For starters, Lee Jihye is a fairly direct person who frequently opts to say what she thinks.[31] Her plans tend to be straightforward and pragmatic; she lacks the cunning to consider all eventualities. Additionally, Lee Jihye is very emotionally expressive (crying and shouting at Kim Dokja's supposed death, for instance). When surprised or confused she makes no efforts to conceal her reactions. Furthermore she is quick to anger and lashes out easily.[32]
Finally, Lee Jihye can be reckless[33] and prioritizes others' health and happiness over her own, as seen in early scenarios when she protects complete strangers. This trend continues throughout ORV. Growing up during the scenarios and being forced into leadership roles reinforced her idea of considering other people's pain first, no matter how badly she is hurting. Thus, she is prone to bottling up negative feelings.[34] Despite her bubbly demeanor, Lee Jihye tries to hide her true concerns, particularly when dealing with the children whom she feels responsible for.[14][35]
There are several explanations for why Lee Jihye prioritizes other people's well-being over her own. One of them is her strong sense of justice.[23] Furthermore, Lee Jihye is fiercely loyal.[15] According to Ways of Survival, "the admiral doesn't abandon her colleagues, even if it means dying"[11]. Particularly under Kim Dokja's influence, she grows even more self-sacrificial.[29] By observing her attitude in the 999th regression, we can infer that when driven to extremes, Lee Jihye is willing to destroy entire worlds to get her loved ones back and return to happier times. When compared to her companions, she is strongly fixated on restoring an ostensibly "better" past. This is also reflected by her decision to save Na Bori and Kim Dokja in the group regression.[36]
Similarly, the main reason for her "noble" behavior can arguably be traced back to the first scenario, when she murdered her best friend. Lee Jihye's interest in saving others is strongly implied to at least partially stem from guilt, possibly even an attempt to calm her conscience.[15][29] It should be noted that Lee Jihye displays a remarkable will to survive, and can be surprisingly ruthless about it.[31][25] By saving as many people as possible, she tries to justify her own survival retroactively and is thus capable of living on.[37] At her best, Lee Jihye will no longer obsess over her past but let it guide her future actions instead. Nonetheless, she often doubts her own abilities and suffers from survivor guilt, further exacerbated by her inability to protect other party members, particularly Kim Dokja. Lee Jihye struggles a lot with self-loathing, resentment and disillusionment with the world. No matter what, she "never forgets the sins she committed".[11] Though usually an upbeat chatterbox she has rare, quiet moments when reminded of Na Bori.[34][38]
Despite everything, Lee Jihye retains a childish side. She is easily excited; often a bit petulant or whiny when disappointed.[39][25] Lee Jihye complains a lot and gets annoyed quickly.[40] When she wants something, she is prone to wheedling other people and gets greedy.[39][41] She also has a mischievous side and enjoys joking around casually.[42] However, her sense of humor is a bit mean-spirited and she will often pit people against each other or tease them mercilessly. Furthermore, she frequently lies about small things to put herself at an advantage.[39][43] This is evidenced by her story fragment "Natural-born Bender of Facts".[44] However, she is ultimately a trustworthy and responsible person.
On top of that, Lee Jihye is very nosy and enjoys gossip to the point of eavesdropping and spying when necessary.[45] She is a bit of a romantic and highly invested in other people's love lives.[43][46][8][47] Nonetheless she seems a bit embarrassed by sentimentality. Lee Jihye claims to be bad at comforting others but still tries her best to console her companions, particularly Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung.[26] Similar to Yoo Joonghyuk, she will sometimes claim not to care but always inadvertedly betrays her words through her actions.[48] It is strongly implied that she knows better but is too immature to concede.[29] Likewise, it is implied that she is more serious and "adult" in rounds that feature Kim Namwoon.
History[]
Lee Jihye used to study at Daepong Girls' High School. At the time of the first scenario, she was a student in Year 2, Class B and attending a night class on ethics.[49] She has been described as a poor student.[50] She used to be a member of the broadcasting club and would play music she liked during lunch.[49] She is a Jeonju Lee and the descendent of Lee Eokgi, the former companion of Lee Sunsin, her sponsor.[37] She was a girl scout in elementary school and is thus skillful at setting up tents and surviving in the wilderness.[11] In the side story, it was revealed that she is a "self-taught swordwoman" and thus likely had no experience with swordfighting prior to the scenarios.
After the scenarios in the 0th round, Lee Jihye defended the country's borders and helped reach agreements with foreign incarnations.[51] In the 41st round, Yoo Joonghyuk used and abandoned her. She was murdered on the sea by the Japanese who hated her sponsor and was outlived by Yoo Joonghyuk.[24] In the 161st round, Lee Jihye died along with Lee Seolhwa.[52] In the 173rd round Lee Jihye received her high school diploma.[53] In the original 1863rd round she died in the 78th scenario.[54]
!863rd Round[]
The Lee Jihye of the 1863rd regression is part of Han Sooyoung's group and looks up to her the way she does Yoo Joonghyuk in other regressions. She tries to kill the 1863rd Yoo Joongyuk but Kim Dokja fends her off and convinces her to take him to Han Sooyoung. After Yoo Joonghyuk regresses she presumably made it to the end of the scenarios with Han Sooyoung and the rest of her companions.
Synopsis[]
The first scenario started a little bit earlier than 7pm for Lee Jihye.[49] Her best friend allows her to kill her. She ends up as the only survivor in her class.[55] Three days before Kim Dokja arrives in Chungmuro, she came to the station and challenged Gong Pildu. Upon escaping, Yoo Joonghyuk saved her and accepted her as his disciple. According to Kim Dokja, she would have died otherwise.[15] Lee Jihye then proceeded to hunt monsters and let Yoo Joonghyuk cook them for the remaining survivors in the station.[23]
During the three year gap she became the leader of the Busan Alliance.[14]
Relationships[]
Jung Heewon[]
Jihye thinks that Heewon is a cool older woman.[56]
Yoo Joonghyuk[]
She considers him her teacher and guardian. In particular, she looks up to Yoo Joonghyuk's determination and ability to power through desperate situations. She admires Han Sooyoung in the 1863rd round to a similar extent.
TBD
Kim Dokja[]
In the third year of middle school (corresponding to Yoo Joonghyuk's 164th turn), Kim Dokja had a crush on the character of Lee Jihye in Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World.[57] Lee Jihye often pretends to dislike Kim Dokja or insult and tease him, but in reality she cares about him as much as all the other members of Kim Dokja's Company and would do anything to protect him.
TBD
Han Sooyoung[]
TBD
Na Bori[]
Na bori is the best friend of Lee jihye, but in all regressions he always has to kill her, her death was always broadcast on channel #BAY-23515, where Lee Jihye could be seen choking her. She has nightmares about Bori's death every night.[58][59]
TBD
Kim Namwoon[]
She considers him annoying. In Ways of Survival, he had a crush on Lee Jihye.
TBD
Lee Gilyoung[]
Lee Jihye often calls Lee Gilyoung "kid".[60] [61] She argues with him frequently but seems to be very fond of him, similar to an older sibling.
TBD
Shin Yoosung[]
Lee Jihye has called Shin Yoosung "little beast". Shin Yoosung initially dislikes the former for being rude to Kim Dokja.[60]
TBD
Abilities[]
Personal Attributes[]
- Scarred Sword Demon (Rare): It is heavily implied that Lee Jihye gained this attribute after murdering Na Bori in the first scenario.[49] Though its precise effects are unclear, in the 999th round Yoo Joonghyuk recommends her to remember the ones she killed, lest she becomes a Sword Demon.[62]
- Monarch of the Great Sea (Legendary): Lee Jihye's final attribute evolution, caused by the probability lent to her by the Korean constellations, her own story and the will to risk death. By gaining this attribute, Lee Jihye officially surpassed her sponsor's status, thereby growing more powerful than a narrative-grade constellation.[62] In Ways of Survival, she only ever managed to gain this attribute well past the 1800th regression. Originally, this attribute allowed her to go toe to toe with myth-grade constellations such as Poseidon when fighting on the sea, going so far as to say that the "Monarch of the Great Sea will never be defeated on water".[63]
Personal Skills[]
- Sword Training
- Demon Slaying: Increases combat abilities when "excited" but leaves its user more vulnerable to mental attacks. When activated, it causes the user's eyes to glow red.[39][64]
- Absolute Sense
- Ghost Walk: Conceals movements of the user. There is no other skill in the early scenarios that is capable of that.[15]
- Instant Kill: Capable of killing an opponent with a single blow and one of the best "anti-human" combat skills in Ways of Survival.[3] Lee Jihye created this skill herself. It requires her to get into a crouched position first.[20]
- Voice Projection
- The Fourth Law/Fourth Sword that Beheads the Emptiness: Originally Cheok Jungyeong's skill, Lee Jihye learns it to a certain extent and uses it during the group regression. This is only possible due to the training she received on the Isle of Reincarnators and her innate talent.[65]
- Water the Sky Sword Door, True Body Deep Righteousness Slash Technique, Water the Sky Destroy the Emperor Slash!!: A fake, non-existent skill Lee Jihye made up when Han Sooyoung was writing Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. Lee Jihye added this detail without Han Sooyoung's knowledge or permission. Yoo Joonghyuk caught this error and pointed out that this sword technique doesn't exist in the Breaking the Sky Swordsmanship. Additionally, the Hanja was incorrect.[44]
Sponsor: Maritime War God[]
- Sea Battle (Stigma): TBD
- Large Army Command (Stigma): TBD
- Ghost Fleet (Stigma): Lee Jihye's specialty.[62] Conjures twelve ghost ships when near a body of water and allows its user to command them in battle. The ships aren't capable of receiving damage by ordinary means, despite being able to deal damage as usual.[37] Originally, the stigma doesn't function without water.[66] The size of the vessels is dependent on her power, eventually growing as large as aircraft carriers in the late scenarios.[62]
- Song of the Sword (Stigma): Temporarily imbues a sword with a special power based on a random verse of Lee Sunsin's diary. In Ways of Survival, Lee Jihye originally acquired this stigma midway in the story. However, Kim Dokja received it as well for helping Lee Jihye in the Theater Dungeon.[37] She is first seen using it in Dark Castle.[16] When activated, five colors rise from the blade.[3]
Overall Stats[]
- As of Chapter 27, her stats are [Constitution Lv. 13], [Strength Lv. 12], [Agility Lv. 13], [Magic Power Lv. 9].[6]
- As of Chapter 38, her stats are [Constitution Lv. 13], [Strength Lv. 17], [Agility Lv 13], [Magic Power Lv. 10].[39]
- As of Chapter 101, the total value of her stats is roughly over 160. Her strength and physique are slighly lower than the rubrics, but she has reached the limit for the fifth scenario.[7]
- Lee Jihye is strongly biased towards agility. As of Chapter 162, she has been neglecting strength and magic power.[60]
Items[]
- Longsword: Her weapon of choice in the early scenarios, gifted to her by Yoo Joonghyuk.[28] As Lee Jihye is initially nicknamed "little samurai" by survivors in Chungmuro, it seems likely that the sword is a type of katana.[23] Its blade is described as deep blue[22] and it appears to be well-crafted and "luxurious". Lee Jihye carries it around her waist.[28][45] It broke at some point after she entered Dark Castle.[29]
- Double/Twin Dragon Sword: A longsword that Lee Jihye fights with in the late scenarios. It is the strongest sword in the Korean peninsula and a star relic by the Maritime War God.[3] Kim Dokja remarks that without the sword and far away from water, Lee Jihye's sponsor isn't particularly helpful.[67] She received it at the some point prior to the 94th scenario.[68]
- Twin Dragon Sword: A sword that Lee Jihye uses after the three year gap and that originally belonged to Lee Sunsin. Its performance is excellent and Kim Dokja speculates that she stole it from a museum.[64] Lee Jihye uses it as an ether blade, a technique that is exclusive to the people in Murim. It emits blue flames when activated.[14]
- Turtle Dragon: A battleship that was commisssioned by Lee Sunsin a long time ago in Next City. It is both a star relic and a story weapon, essentially turning the skies into a sea as well. Lee Jihye picks it up after her stint in Next City.[69][70] The ship is built with "futuristic technology" and has a hard exterior.[71] Furthermore, it sports a turtle-like back and the head of a dragon, that also functions as a canon and a flame thrower.[68][62] It is later upgraded with Story Metal.[18]
- Invincible Warrior's Sword: a sword belonging to Cheok Jungyeong that Lee Jihye uses in the final scenario of the 1865th regression.[72]
Trivia[]
- Based on information provided by the official Thai publishing house LevonPublishing - Lee Jihye's birthday is February 4th.[73]
- Taking the year that ORV started (2018) to be the same calendar year in-text at the start of the novel, and assuming that all ages are given according to the Korean system, Lee Jihye's date of birth is February 4, 2002.
- Jihye's score on the affection reader for Kim Dokja is 6, the lowest out of all the party members.[74]
- As of the eighth scenario, Lee Jihye is the tenth strongest incarnation in Seoul.[75]
- Despite her sponsor and skillset, Lee Jihye gets seasick easily and hates the sea.[25] This changes throughout the scenarios as she gains more self-confidence.[70]
- Lee Jihye is under the impression that Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk are in love and have a child. It is unclear if or when she realized that this assumption was based on a misunderstanding.[43][46] [76] However, it later turns out that some of these instances might have been fabricated by Uriel. It thus remains unknown to which extent Lee Jihye truly was convinced of Kim Dokja's and Yoo Joonghyuk's secret love affair.[77]
- In Dark Castle, Lee Jihye's initial rank is 98,761.[78]
- Lee Jihye remarks that she dislikes being sponsored coins that aren't in units of 100.[64]

- Lee Jihye joined a fanclub for the Uriel, Black Flame Dragon, and Sun Wukong's idol group. She seems to have a lot to say about the "Uriel Force".[81]
- She knows all about the K-pop genre. At karaoke she has to sing all of Melon’s Top 100 songs before she feels satisfied. When she sings she always gets up from her seat. She is the one with 90% of the songs reserved.[82]
- In high school she was a lively and sociable kid. She had bad grades but a loyal personality and a best friend she cherished dearly. She was the noisiest during recess, usually sitting on someone else’s desk.[82]
- The hanja for her name means wisdom.
- One of Lee Jihye's hobbies is searching mystery stories online.[83]
- In the Thai version merch set Jihye's likes are said to be physical activity and soda and her dislikes are Math, pickles, and mint chocolate.[83]
