Dionysus, otherwise known by his modifier God of Wine and Ecstasy, is a supporting character in Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. He is an <Olympus> constellation[2][1] who wanted to become Kim Dokja's sponsor in the second sponsor selection.[3]
Synopsis[]
Dionysus contacts Dokja through his alcohol when he is drinking with Sangah by a fire. The alcohol makes wild movements and shapes, and Sangah suggests that they have to drink it to be able to contact Dionysus.[4]
As they are drinking, Dokja and Sangah almost kiss, but Dokja's fourth wall skill makes him come to his senses, and he stops it. Dionysus uses the wine to tell Dokja that he is a buzzkill, and the Great Hall reacts because the outer Gods noticed his presence. Dokja notes that sending a direct message is something only the highest-grade constellations can do, because it spends a lot of probability.[5]
Dokja challenges Dionysus to come down and talk directly, but Dionysus writes that he is not a fan of tentacled creatures. Dokja internally says that if Dionysus were to descend, he and all of Seoul would be destroyed by the probability. Dionysus writes this in his explanation as well. He also says that his father descending is why his "mother" died. This suggests that Dionysus's mother was Semele. However, Sangah points out that there was another myth, where Dionysus's mother is Persephone. In this world, the latter is true.[5]
Dokja asks which myth is true, and Dionysus brushes it off at first, but Dokja says that it is important that Persephone is his mother, so that he can contact Hades. Dionysus says that someone who played the lyre once was as bold as Dokja, but ended up dying, though Dokja reassures him that it would not happen. At this, Dionysus agrees to open the gates of the underworld for Dokja, though he would only have twelve hours. Dokja suddenly falls asleep, with Dionysus guiding his soul.[5]
TBD
After the scenarios Dionysus puts on performances of some type likely involving music and dancing as it is compared to the constellation idol group.[6]
Relationships[]
Kim Dokja[]
Dionysus contacts Dokja directly through wine, because he knows that Dokja wants to go to the underworld, and Dionysus is willing to help him. He calls Dokja impertinent, but says that he likes impertinent humans. He also says he likes humans that want something badly, a trait that Dokja possesses. Dokja also reminds him of a human as bold as that played the lyre beautifully, but died due to their decisions. Dionysus is likely referring to Orpheus.[5]
Hades[]
Dionysus says that Hades isn't very fond of him. However, he hopes that Hades will like Dokja.[5]
Persephone[]
Though Dionysus does not confirm or deny the theories that they are related, he and Persephone are on good terms and he is the only member of Olympus she is willing to work with.
Trivia[]
- Of Dionysus' two birth myths, in Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World, the myth where Dionysus' mother is Hades’ wife, Persephone, is true.[5]
- In chapter 166 of the webtoon, Dionysus mentions there is a Korean energy drink named after him. This is a reference to Bacchus-F.
